How much are Warwick Castle tickets?
There is no single figure, and the gap is the useful part. A one-day entry booked online starts at £26 and the same ticket bought at the gate is £31, so booking ahead saves £5 a head before you have done anything else. A family ticket covering three to five people, with a maximum of two adults, starts at £86 for four.
Do I need to book Warwick Castle tours in advance?
Yes for the London day trips, and yes for the cheapest entry. Two of the coach days are flagged as likely to sell out on their own booking pages, and school holidays and summer weekends fill first. The castle's own online price is lower than its gate price every day of the year, so a Warwick Castle booking made ahead is cheaper as well as safer.
Is castle entry included in a Warwick Castle tour from London?
Not always, and this is the single thing worth reading twice. Three of the London day trips sell admission as a separate booking grade — you choose “including entries” or “excluding entries” when you book, and the headline price is the one without. Two departures do include entry outright: the Boxing Day coach and the private car day.
Can you visit Warwick Castle from London in a day?
Yes, and it is the commonest way people come. The coach days leave a London stand at half past eight and are back around seven, taking in Stratford-upon-Avon and Oxford as well. You get about an hour and a half inside the castle out of that, so it is a day about the county rather than a day about the castle.
How long do you need at the castle?
Longer than a coach day gives you. The castle's own admission product states a duration of six hours, and if you arrive at opening and stay to four you will use nearly all of it. If you only have ninety minutes, pick two of the towers, the Great Hall and one show, and accept that the rest waits.
What time does the castle open?
Out of season the castle's own site shows 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, and the hours extend in summer. The live programme is the harder boundary: the outdoor shows run from 28 March to 1 November 2026 and the Zog shows stop on 27 September, so a winter visit is the building and the grounds without the flying displays.
Is the Castle Dungeon included in my ticket?
No. The Castle Dungeon is an additional charge on top of any admission ticket, from £10 a head if you add it at the Courtyard Ticket and Information Office after you are inside. It is not suitable for children under ten, and anyone under eighteen needs a parent or guardian with them.
How many steps are the towers and ramparts?
540 on the Towers and Ramparts route, and there is no lift and no short way down. The Norman mound, called the Conqueror's Fortress, is another 122, and the Kingmaker walk-through has 33 with a cobbled floor. Only the Great Hall and State Rooms have a step-free route, by wheelchair lift.
Is parking included in my ticket?
No, and it is not a token amount. The Stables Car Park is £10.00 and the Stratford Road and overflow field car parks are £7.50, all payable on site. Coaches park free, which is one quiet advantage of arriving on a day trip rather than driving yourself.
How do I get to the castle by train?
London Marylebone runs direct to Warwick in about an hour and three quarters, and Birmingham Snow Hill in under forty minutes. Warwick railway station is roughly a mile from the entrance, about fifteen minutes on foot. Arriving this way avoids the car parks and the uphill walk from them entirely.
Can I cancel a day trip?
Every departure listed here refunds in full if you cancel at least twenty-four hours before it starts, which is the operator's own stated policy on all of them. Inside twenty-four hours there is no refund. Cancel through the platform you booked with rather than contacting the castle.
What is included in castle admission?
Entrance to the castle and grounds, and the live shows and attractions running that day, plus the Rainy Day Promise. The Castle Dungeon, the seasonal have-a-go archery, parking and food are all separate. The castle's own free History Talks run through the day and are the closest thing here to a guided tour.
Is Warwick Castle worth it?
For most visitors yes, and the reviews divide in a way worth knowing about. Travellers who come for a full day out with children rate it highly; those who come expecting a quiet medieval monument sometimes find the theming heavy. The fourteenth-century towers, the Great Hall and the Norman mound are all genuinely there under the programme.
Are there guided tours inside the castle?
Not in the way most people expect. The castle runs free History Talks daily with its own staff, and those are the guided element. On a coach day trip the guide gets you through the gate and the castle itself is then self-guided, which surprises a lot of people who assumed otherwise.
What does a family ticket cover?
A family one-day entry starts at £86 for four when booked online, and covers a family of three, four or five with a maximum of two adults aged sixteen or over. A Parent & Toddler ticket starts at £22 online on selected dates. Under-2s go in free.
Is an annual pass worth it?
It depends entirely on whether you will come twice. A Warwick Annual Pass starts at £49 against an online day ticket from £26, so the break-even is two visits in a year. The Merlin Annual Pass at £139 is a different calculation and only makes sense if you visit the group's other attractions too.
Can I take food into Warwick Castle?
Yes, and a lot of regular visitors do. There are places to eat inside, and you are free to bring your own as well. The falconry is watched from the grass, so a picnic and a blanket is what most regulars settle on. Pageant Field is the open riverside grass people sit on.
Where should I park at Warwick Castle?
The Stables Car Park at £10.00 is closest to the entrance. Stratford Road and the overflow field are £7.50 and sit on an incline, and the castle asks you to allow ten to twenty minutes to walk up. Both have EV charging, with reservable chargers at Stratford Road.
What is the Kingmaker?
A walk-through exhibition of a medieval household preparing for battle, built around Richard Neville, the 16th Earl of Warwick, who earned the name by putting two different kings on the English throne. It has 33 steps and a cobbled floor. The castle marks two until three in the afternoon as its quiet hour.
Is there a Warwick Castle ghost tour?
Not as a bookable product in the sense people usually mean. The castle's own after-dark offering is the Castle Dungeon, a live-actor show at an extra charge for ages ten and up. Separately, an independent operator runs a ninety-minute evening dark-history walk around Warwick town that passes the castle gates without going in.
Is there a Warwick Castle dungeon tour I can book with my ticket?
The Castle Dungeon is not part of any admission ticket and is not sold as a tour in its own right on the listings collected here. It is added on top: from £10 a head at the Courtyard Ticket and Information Office once you are inside, subject to availability, and restricted to ages ten and over.
Can I do a Warwick garden tour?
There is no guided garden tour to book. What there is is the Peacock Garden with its topiary and fountain, the wider grounds Capability Brown laid out between 1749 and 1757, and Pageant Field along the river — all step-free, all included in any admission ticket, and all walked at your own pace.
How old is Warwick Castle?
William the Conqueror raised the first castle here in 1068, two years after Hastings, and the town was already fortified: Æthelflæd, Lady of the Mercians, built a burh at Warwick in 914. What you climb today is largely fourteenth century, paid for by Thomas Beauchamp.
Who owns Warwick Castle?
Merlin Entertainments runs it as a visitor attraction. The Greville family held it from 1604, when James I granted it to Sir Fulke Greville, until November 1978, when it was sold to the Tussauds Group and opened to the public. That is 374 years in one family.
Where is the Warwick Vase?
In Glasgow, not at the castle. The vase was dug out of Hadrian's villa near Rome in 1769, restored, and given to George Greville, Earl of Warwick; it stood in the castle courtyard for nearly two centuries and was sold to the Burrell Collection in 1979. What stands at Warwick now is a replica.
Is Warwick Castle wheelchair accessible?
Partly, and the castle publishes exactly which parts. The Great Hall and State Rooms are reached by a wheelchair lift and the Zog attractions and the grounds are fully accessible. The Towers and Ramparts, the Conqueror's Fortress, the Kingmaker and the Mill and Engine House have no step-free route.
Do carers get in free at Warwick Castle?
Yes, with a free carer ticket that must be booked in advance rather than claimed at the gate. The castle accepts Disability Living Allowance, Personal Independence Payment, Attendance Allowance, a Blue Badge, or registration of a visual impairment as proof.
What is the Falconer's Quest?
The Falconer's Quest is the castle's flying display, staged over Pageant Field with more than sixty birds, and the show most people leave talking about. It runs at noon and again at 3:30 pm between 28 March and 1 November 2026. Bring something to sit on, because it is watched from the grass.
When is Warwick Castle quietest?
Out of the school holidays, on a weekday, in the first hour after the ten o'clock opening. Winter is emptier still, at the cost of the outdoor programme, which does not run between 1 November and 28 March. The Kingmaker has its own published quiet hour from two until three.
What happens at Warwick Castle if it rains?
A good deal of the day is indoors: the Great Hall and State Rooms, the Kingmaker, the Royal Weekend Party and the Castle Dungeon. The Zog Playland and the Horrible Histories Maze are listed as weather permitting, and the flying display depends on conditions. Day and family tickets carry the castle's Rainy Day Promise.
Can I stay overnight at Warwick Castle?
Yes, in four different ways. There is the Warwick Castle Hotel in the grounds, Woodland Lodges along the River Avon, medieval-themed glamping tents in the woodland, and suites inside fourteenth-century Caesar's Tower itself. A short break starts at £60 per person for a family of four and bundles a night, breakfast, a day's entry and parking.
What else is near Warwick Castle?
Kenilworth Castle is about fifteen minutes away by car and is a very different proposition, run by English Heritage as a ruin. Stratford-upon-Avon is twenty-five minutes, the Lord Leycester and the Collegiate Church of St Mary are a few minutes on foot in Warwick itself, and Oxford and Blenheim Palace are both about an hour.
Do the London day trips stop in the Cotswolds?
No, and this is the most common misunderstanding about them. Every one of these itineraries describes a panoramic drive through the Cotswolds with no stop. Treat it as scenery from the coach window rather than as a fourth destination. If a Cotswold village is what you came for, none of these days will give you one.
Should I tip on a Warwick Castle day trip?
It is not included in any of these fares and it is not expected the way it is in some countries. Most of the listings name gratuities among their exclusions, which is a way of saying it is up to you. If a guide has made the day, travellers here typically round up.
